Elara's origin is somewhat vague — she deflects personal questions with the skill of long practice. What is clear is that she arrived in Aeternum roughly a decade ago, immediately attached herself to the Dark Forest's main entry point, and has been there ever since. She claims the role of guide is a calling rather than a profession, and declines payment for basic orientation services. She earns her living through a small shop selling maps, starter kits, and trail rations. Rumors that she is actually a retired intelligence operative are dismissed by locals primarily because she is too cheerful to be convincing.
