Kael fought as a gladiator for twelve years before transitioning to administration, a move that surprised everyone who had watched him fight. He explains it simply: administrating combat lets him shape the entire ecosystem rather than win individual bouts. His arena reforms — standardized bracket rules, anti-cheat measures, the public ranking board — transformed the Citadel's fighting circuit from a blood sport into a genuine competitive institution. He still accepts personal challenge matches from exceptional fighters, which is the only way anyone has ever seen him sweat.
