Werewolf Race Guide: Stats, Passives, Best Builds & Progression

April 9, 2026 The VvW Team ~14 min read Updated: April 9, 2026

TL;DR: Werewolves are Aeternum's masters of raw physical power and pack synergy. With racial bonuses stacked toward STR and VIT, three distinct subclass paths, and a faction ecosystem built around group content, the Werewolf is the best race for PvE farming, clan wars, and party play. This is the definitive guide covering everything from starting stats to endgame prestige scaling.

"The moon calls. The pack answers. The hunt begins."

Racial Passives — What Makes Werewolves Unique

Every Werewolf character benefits from four permanent racial passives that cannot be unlearned or respecced away. These form the foundation of every viable Werewolf build.

Primal Strength +12% STR — flat racial bonus applied after base stat calculation, before soft cap check.
Ironhide +5% VIT — improves survivability across all content types, stacks with gear bonuses.
Pack Bonus +8% ATK when in a party of 2 or more. Always active in dungeons, raids, and clan wars.
Moon Rage When HP drops below 30%, gain +15% damage. Triggered automatically — no activation needed.

The Pack Bonus is deceptively powerful. Because it activates with any party member — including a single companion — it is effectively a permanent +8% ATK in almost all content. Solo open-world play is the only scenario where it doesn't apply. Plan all builds around Pack Bonus being active.

Moon Rage is an emergency passive that rewards aggressive play. Unlike Vampire life steal which mitigates damage, Moon Rage rewards Werewolves for getting hit low — which means high-risk, high-reward positioning in PvP.

Available Subclasses

Werewolves can choose from three subclasses, each unlocked at level 10. The choice dramatically alters your playstyle and which stats to prioritize.

Berserker

The purest STR build in the game. Berserkers deal enormous single-target damage through sustained physical attacks augmented by rage mechanics. They excel in prolonged fights where the Moon Rage passive activates, and they are the backbone of clan war frontlines. Gear toward two-handed weapons and maximize STR to the soft cap (200) before touching other stats.

Key mechanic: Wolf Rage ability stacks damage multipliers with Moon Rage — during the Blood Moon event, a low-HP Berserker can hit damage multipliers exceeding 1.45× base attack.

Moon Warrior

A hybrid fighter that blends STR with WIS to access lunar buff abilities. Moon Warriors gain unique bonuses during Blood Moon events and can phase between offensive and defensive stances. They are the most versatile Werewolf subclass and the best choice for players who want to do both PvP and PvE without respeccing.

Key mechanic: Lunar Stance grants +10% DEF and +5% ATK simultaneously. At WIS 80+, it also generates a 2% HP shield per turn.

Pack Shaman

The support/debuffer subclass. Pack Shamans use WIS and INT to apply curses, summon spirit wolves, and amplify the entire party's damage. They have the lowest personal DPS of the three Werewolf subclasses but provide more group utility than any other subclass in the game, including Vampire subclasses.

Key mechanic: Pack Howl grants all party members +12% ATK for 5 turns — stacking with the racial Pack Bonus for a combined +20% ATK party buff.

Starting Stats by Subclass

At character creation, you distribute 20 base stat points. Here is the optimal starting allocation for each Werewolf subclass. These account for your racial +12% STR and +5% VIT passives applying on top.

Berserker Starting Stats

STR10
VIT6
DEX2
LCK2
WIS0
INT0

Focus entirely on STR and VIT. The 2 in DEX prevents you from being dodge-capped against fast enemies in early dungeons. LCK adds minor crit chance for smoother early farming.

Moon Warrior Starting Stats

STR8
VIT5
DEX3
WIS4
LCK0
INT0

Balanced between STR and WIS from the start. Early WIS unlocks Lunar Stance faster. The DEX investment improves hit rate for the first 20 levels where gear is thin.

Pack Shaman Starting Stats

WIS8
INT5
VIT5
STR2
DEX0
LCK0

Pack Shamans invert the typical Werewolf stat priority. WIS is your primary stat for curse potency and spirit summon scaling. INT secondary for debuff duration. Keep STR minimal — you are the force multiplier, not the damage dealer.

Progression Roadmap

Early Game (Levels 1–25)

Your goal in early game is simple: complete the Crystal Shards quest chain chapters 1–3 (levels 1–30 range) as your primary content. These chapters teach the game systems, award gear upgrade materials, and provide your first subclass skill unlock at level 10. Do not skip the faction introduction quests — Pack Clans reputation earned here accelerates mid-game.

  • Level 10: Choose your subclass. This is permanent without a paid respec.
  • Level 15: Unlock the first dungeon tier. Run it with the Companion you receive from the Pack Clans starter quest for your Pack Bonus ATK.
  • Level 20: Begin reputation grind with Ironmaw Pack — the first Pack Clans sub-faction. Prioritize their weekly quests over open-world farming.
  • Level 25: You should have your first full Uncommon gear set socketed with basic runes.

Mid Game (Levels 26–60)

Mid-game is about gear upgrade loops and faction reputation. Focus the Pack Clans Ironmaw Pack faction to Honored (rank 3) before spreading attention to other factions. At Honored, Ironmaw Pack unlocks Rare crafting blueprints that dramatically outperform auction house alternatives at your gear score range.

  • Level 30: Crystal Shards chapter 4 unlocks. Complete it immediately — it rewards an Epic ring that lasts into the 50s.
  • Level 40: Begin the Pack Clans main reputation chain. This unlocks the Howling Ground dungeon set (STR-heavy Rare gear).
  • Level 50: Re-evaluate your stat allocation. Berserkers should be approaching STR 100+ at this point. Start diverting points to VIT if survivability in dungeon tier 3 is an issue.
  • Level 60: Aim for Revered standing with Ironmaw Pack. The Revered reward is a Blueprint for Moonfang Armor — the best pre-endgame Werewolf set.

Endgame (Levels 61–80)

Endgame Werewolf gameplay centers on two things: maximizing gear score through Epic and Legendary items, and preparing for Prestige. The STR soft cap is 200 — once you reach it (typically around level 72–75 with endgame gear), redirect all level-up points to VIT until you hit 180, then LCK for crit value.

  • Level 65: Crystal Shards chapters 5–7 span levels 65–80. Each chapter drops a Legendary gear piece specific to your subclass.
  • Level 70: Participate in Eclipse War (day 1 of each month). Top-50 War Point scores award Epic gear for Werewolves.
  • Level 75: The Blood Moon event is your primary XP and Gold source. Activate all saved XP elixirs during the +25% XP window.
  • Level 80: You are Prestige-eligible. Read the Prestige Math guide before clicking the Prestige button.

Best Companions for Werewolf

Companions activate the Pack Bonus from the moment they join. Beyond that, certain companion types synergize specifically with Werewolf abilities.

  • Spirit Wolf (Pack Clans reward, level 20) — Best early companion. Provides Pack Bonus, contributes STR-based damage, and benefits from your Pack Howl buffs if you're a Shaman.
  • Moonbound Sentinel (level 45 reward) — Taunt ability pulls aggro during Moon Rage windows, letting you deal maximum Moon Rage damage without dying.
  • Ancient Shaman (level 60 craft) — Provides WIS-based healing ticks. Valuable for Moon Warriors and Pack Shamans in endgame content.
  • Avoid: Any INT-scaling companion (Arcane Familiar, Blood Sprite) — these share no stat synergy with Werewolf builds.

Pack Clans Faction — What to Grind

Pack Clans is the Werewolf faction. It has three sub-factions, each offering different rewards. Here is which to prioritize and when:

Sub-FactionPriorityKey RewardUnlock Level
Ironmaw PackFirstMoonfang Armor blueprint, STR-heavy Rare gear1
Howling BrotherhoodSecondPack War bonuses, Eclipse War scoring boosts30
Lunar ConclaveThirdLegendary rune scrolls, Moon Warrior exclusive gear55

Do not spread reputation gains evenly. Ironmaw Pack to Exalted first, then Howling Brotherhood for Eclipse War advantages, then Lunar Conclave for endgame crafting materials.

Werewolf vs Vampire — Full Comparison

The race choice is permanent without a full account reset. Here is an honest comparison to help new players decide, or confirm they made the right choice.

Content TypeWerewolfVampire
PvE Farming (open world)Better — Pack Bonus active with companion, Moon Rage triggers on boss fightsWeaker — life steal helps sustain but lower base physical output
Clan WarsBetter — Pack Bonus stacks with clan mates, Berserker frontlines are dominantWeaker — better flankers but lose sustained trades
Party Dungeon ContentBetter — Pack Bonus always active, Pack Shaman brings strongest group buffsCompetitive — Blood Mage brings AoE but no comparable party buff
Solo PvP (arena)Weaker — Moon Rage requires getting hit low first, which is riskyBetter — Shadow Assassin burst can end fights before Moon Rage helps
INT / Magic BuildsNot viableBetter — Vampire INT racial bonus, Blood Mage subclass
Crafting / EconomyWeaker — fewer crafting faction bonusesBetter — Vampire factions have more crafting-oriented rep rewards
Eclipse War (monthly PvP)Competitive — Moon Warrior and Pack Shaman are strong Eclipse War picksCompetitive — Shadow Assassin dominates kill counts

Prestige Scaling for STR-Heavy Builds

The prestige multiplier formula is: 1 + (prestige_level × 0.02). At Prestige 5, all stats gain a ×1.10 multiplier. For Berserkers with STR near the 200 soft cap, this translates to an effective +20 STR — meaningful damage improvement without changing your gear.

Critically, the STR soft cap (200) is applied before the prestige multiplier. Your effective post-cap STR with Prestige 5 and the racial +12% bonus is approximately 224, which pushes your actual DPS beyond what the stat screen shows. Werewolf STR-heavy builds gain more absolute value from prestige than INT-heavy Vampire builds because STR has the highest base damage scaling coefficient in the game.

Recommended prestige cadence: Prestige after reaching level 80 with full Rare or better gear each cycle. Do not prestige with incomplete gear sets — the stat regression during re-leveling is severe without defensive gear to compensate.

Common Mistakes New Werewolf Players Make

  • Splitting stats too early: New players spread points across 3–4 stats trying to be flexible. This leaves you below meaningful thresholds in all of them. Pick two stats and commit through level 40.
  • Ignoring Pack Bonus: Playing without a companion in open-world content loses 8% ATK permanently. Always have a companion summoned.
  • Choosing Pack Shaman without a regular party: Pack Shaman is a group subclass. If you play mostly solo, choose Berserker or Moon Warrior instead.
  • Spending gems on STR elixirs instead of inventory slots: Early, inventory management is the real bottleneck. Gem-purchased inventory slots provide more total gold/hour than minor stat potions.
  • Skipping Ironmaw Pack reputation: Many new players farm open-world mobs instead of rep quests. The Moonfang Armor blueprint alone saves 15,000–20,000 gold compared to buying equivalent gear on the auction house.
  • Prestiging too early: Prestiging at level 75 instead of 80 with incomplete gear means spending extra weeks re-leveling without the stat foundation to farm efficiently. Always hit 80 and fill your gear slots before prestiging.
  • Fighting in PvP at low HP on purpose to trigger Moon Rage: Moon Rage is an emergency passive, not a strategy to farm. In structured PvP, enemies will instantly capitalize on your low HP before Moon Rage provides meaningful value.
