Raid bosses are the highest single-session gold and gem earners in VvW — but most players settle for the participation reward when Top 5 is achievable with the right approach. This guide shows you exactly how to compete for top positions.
How the Leaderboard Actually Works
The raid boss leaderboard ranks players by total damage dealt during the 48-hour window. This is not normalised by time played — a player who makes 10 highly-optimised attacks can beat a player who made 50 unoptimised attacks.
The formula that matters: Damage per Attack × Number of Attacks = Your Ranking Score
Maximising Damage Per Attack
Your damage per attack is determined by your character's ATK stat minus the boss's DEF stat. Here's what moves the needle:
- Use your highest-damage skill on every attack — don't auto-attack even once. Each auto-attack is a wasted raid window.
- Time attacks during phase transitions — bosses have 0 DEF for approximately 2 seconds during phase transitions. An attack during this window deals full unmitigated damage regardless of your stats.
- Stack ATK buffs before attacking — if you have a skill that buffs ATK for 2–3 turns, cast it, then immediately use your damage skill in the next window. The buff applies to your raid damage too.
- Blood Mage advantage: AoE skills hit the boss multiple times. Blood Mage's multi-hit abilities register each hit as separate damage on the leaderboard.
Stamina Strategy
You have a maximum of 50 stamina, regenerating at 1 every 6 minutes. For a 48-hour boss, you can make a maximum of 480 attacks (if you log in every 6 hours to use 10 stamina).
In practice, the optimal approach is:
- Attack with full 50 stamina in hour 1 — this immediately establishes your leaderboard position before others have attacked
- Attack again at the 6-hour mark with your next 60 stamina (10 regen × 6 hours)
- Use an XP/Stamina boost to triple your regen rate for the second attack window
- Final burst in the last 12 hours — many players drop out, making it easier to climb the leaderboard at the end
Boss-Specific Tips
Gorath the World-Eater
Phase 2 Absorb Shield: High-ATK players should save their highest burst for immediately after the shield breaks — the window of 0-DEF retaliation is your best damage opportunity of the fight.
The Pale Empress
Her Soul Drain heals 1% per hit. To counter this, attack in bursts rather than spreading attacks evenly — concentrated damage means less time for healing to accumulate.
Infernal Archon
Infernal Aegis (Phase 2) blocks all physical damage. If you're a physical build, coordinate with clan members — some should focus Phase 1 hard to minimise the Aegis window while magic users carry Phase 2.
Mountain Dragon Vreth
Phase 3 Mountain Fall deals 50% HP to the top 5 damage dealers. If you're ranking Top 5 at the 50% threshold, immediately use a HP potion to survive the mechanic, then continue your burst.
Getting to Top 5: The Full Plan
- Log in within 1 hour of spawn announcement and use full stamina immediately
- Equip your highest-ATK gear set before attacking — not your usual farming set
- Use an XP/ATK boost potion timed with your stamina burst
- Blood Mage or Berserker (at low HP) will deal the most damage per attack
- Check the leaderboard at 12 hours — if you're Top 10, you have a realistic path to Top 5 with a final burst
TIMING SECRET
The best raid boss performance window is hours 12–24 of the spawn. Early attackers set the initial leaderboard, then check back in around hour 12 when casual players have dropped off and the leaderboard has stabilised.
