Initiative Mechanics — Deep Dive
Initiative is more than 'who goes first'. It governs turn slot stacking (two turns in a row possible), interrupt windows, and defensive timing. Top arena players invest 30-40% of their stats into Initiative for predictable rotation control.
Double-turn windows
If your Initiative > opponent's by 50+, you may act twice before they act once. Most short fights are decided by securing one of these windows. Builds that target +50 Init delta over the meta archetype dominate the next bracket.
Interrupt windows
After casting, opponents have 1 GCD before reacting. If your Initiative is high, you can interrupt their reaction window. Werewolves with Storm Step rune cancel their own GCD for instant follow-up.
Initiative debuffs
Slow rune: -15% Init for 3 turns. Net rune: skip-turn chance per attack. Curse rune: stacks Init reduction. Stack 2-3 of these on heavy-hitter opponents to lock them out of their rotation.
