The Shadow Assassin is the highest skill-ceiling subclass in Vampires vs. Werewolves — and when played correctly, it's also the most devastating. This guide covers everything you need to take your Shadow Assassin from level 30 unlock to top-100 PvP performance.

Core Identity

Shadow Assassins are glass cannon burst killers. Every mechanic in the kit rewards going in fast, hitting hard, and getting out before taking a hit. The passive grants +30% DEX, +25% crit chance, and +15% dodge — but takes away -20% HP and -15% DEF. You live fast or you die immediately.

S TIER FOR PvP

Shadow Assassin is S tier in 1v1 PvP and A tier for dungeons. If your primary goal is dungeon speed clearing, consider Blood Mage instead.

Stat Priority

In every gear decision and stat allocation, follow this hierarchy:

  1. DEX (Dexterity) — your primary damage stat. Every point of DEX increases damage output through the crit system.
  2. Crit Chance — soft-cap target is 75% before Veil Strike's guaranteed crit. After that, extra crit chance has diminishing returns.
  3. ATK — raw attack power for non-crit hits and ability scaling.
  4. HP — counteracts the -20% HP passive. Never neglect HP entirely or you die to any AoE.
  5. DEF — lowest priority. You should avoid taking hits, not tank them.

Skill Rotation

The core opener that defines the Shadow Assassin playstyle:

1. Veil Strike (Tier 1, Lv 30)

Guaranteed critical hit for 220% ATK. Always open with this. Against Void resistance targets, this still crits — the guaranteed crit cannot be resisted.

2. Death Mark (Tier 3, Lv 42)

Apply +30% vulnerability for the next 3 attacks. Use immediately after Veil Strike when the enemy is still staggered.

3. Shadow Execution (Tier 3, Lv 45)

If the enemy is below 30% HP after the opener, use this for an instant kill. Against tankier targets, skip to Blade Flurry.

4. Blade Flurry (Tier 4, Lv 50)

10 rapid strikes at 80% ATK each, all with independent crit rolls. With 75% crit chance, expect 7–8 crits per Flurry cast.

5. Death's Embrace (Tier 5, Lv 80)

600% ATK guaranteed crit + instakill below 20% HP. Hold this as your finisher.

Best Gear (BiS)

Companion Choice

Best: Storm Hawk — the Lv 20 guaranteed crit stacks with Veil Strike for a double-guaranteed crit opener. The +15% crit damage at Lv 1 immediately boosts your best skill.

Alt: Serpent Shade — if you run a DoT-focused Shadow Assassin build with Poison Fang, the Shade's Venom Coat adds another poison source and Death Venom at Lv 20 can seal fights.

PvP vs Dungeon Adjustments

In PvP, maximize burst: stack Crit Damage over Crit Chance once you hit the 70% soft cap. One massive hit is better than several smaller ones.

In Dungeons, swap one Crit Damage ring for an HP ring. The extra survivability on multi-room clears more than compensates for the slightly lower peak damage.

COUNTER-PLAY NOTE

Dark Knight's Cloak of Night ability makes them immune to your opener for 2 turns. Against Dark Knights, bait the Cloak first with a low-cost skill, then unleash your full rotation.
