The Dark Knight is Aeternum's most durable combatant — a Vampire subclass that weaponises its own toughness and turns defence into devastating counterattacks. While Shadow Assassins aim to end fights in 2 turns, Dark Knights are built to win wars of attrition.
Core Identity
The Dark Knight's passive grants +25% DEF, +20% HP, and +15% STR — but penalises DEX (-15%) and magic damage (-20%). You're a fortress: hard to kill, capable of absorbing enormous damage and retaliating. The kit is built around damage mitigation, counter-attacks, and ultimate survivability.
Stat Priority
- DEF — your primary stat. Every point of DEF reduces incoming damage from all sources.
- HP — second priority. More HP means more survivability before the DEF penalty kicks in at threshold damage.
- STR — your damage output stat. The passive +15% means STR gear punches above its weight on Dark Knights.
- ATK — supplements STR-based skills.
- DEX / Magic — avoid. The passive penalties mean these stats provide less value than they would on other subclasses.
Core Skill Rotation
1. Dark Taunt (Tier 1, Lv 32)
Force the enemy to target only you for 2 turns while your DEF increases by 1.5×. Use this on turn 1 to absorb hits at maximum DEF.
2. Blood Fortification (Tier 2, Lv 35)
+40% DEF for 4 turns + 5% HP regen per turn. Stack this with Dark Taunt for near-unkillable early turns.
3. Grim Strike (Tier 2, Lv 38)
250% ATK + 1-turn stun. Use this during the Blood Fortification window when you're taking reduced damage — you can afford to spend a turn on offense.
4. Unstoppable Force (Tier 4, Lv 50)
350% ATK, ignores all DEF, 2-turn stun. Your primary damage skill at endgame — use it when Fortification is active for maximum safety.
5. Eternal Darkness (Tier 5, Lv 80)
Cannot die for 2 turns + 400% AoE retaliation. Use this proactively when you see the enemy charging a kill move — you survive it and hit back immediately.
Best Gear (BiS)
- Weapon: One-handed sword + Shield (off-hand). The shield provides block chance on top of your already-high DEF.
- Chest: Highest DEF available. The Iron Bastion Plate from Dungeon 7 is current BiS.
- Necklace: Bleed/Stun resistance. Shadow Assassins will target you with Death Mark — resistance necklaces reduce the vulnerability window.
- Runes: Tier III Rune of Warding (+22 DEF) in all armor sockets; Rune of Vitality (+180 HP) in accessory sockets.
Dungeon Party Role
In group dungeons, the Dark Knight serves as the aggro anchor. Use Dark Taunt at the start of every boss room to redirect all boss attacks to yourself while party members deal damage freely. Your Impenetrable passive (nullify one attack every 5 turns) is especially valuable on boss fights with telegraphed one-shot mechanics.
Companion Choice
Best: Death Wraith — the Reaper's Pact revive (Lv 20) means you effectively have 2 lives per dungeon. Combined with Eternal Darkness's unkillability window, you can survive scenarios that would kill any other subclass.
PvP NOTE
Dark Knight struggles against Shadow Assassins who can burst through your HP before your Fortification window activates. Use Cloak of Night (Tier 4) proactively on the turn a Shadow Assassin uses Veil Strike to absorb the guaranteed crit.
