The Crystal Shards quest chain is the backbone of everything in Vampires vs. Werewolves. Seven chapters spanning Levels 1 through 80, it weaves together faction allegiance, dungeon progression, Corruption mechanics, the Eclipse War, the Infinity Tower, and the climactic confrontation with the Crystal Golem world boss. This walkthrough covers every chapter in full detail — objectives, NPC contacts, pro tips, and complete reward tables — so you never get stuck.

If you are a returning player or restarting after a long absence, bookmark this page. The Crystal Shards chain unlocks virtually every major system in the game, and completing it earns the coveted Crystal Champion title along with a choice of Mythic accessories.

Before You Start Make sure you have chosen your faction before entering Chapter 3. The story diverges into Crimson Pact (Vampire) and Pack's Oath (Werewolf) paths. The rewards are equivalent in power, but the NPCs, flavour text, and cosmetics differ significantly.

Chapter 1 — The Awakening (Levels 1–10)

Chapter 1

The Awakening

Level Range: 1–10  |  Estimated Time: 1–2 hours

Objectives

  • Complete the tutorial combat sequence
  • Choose your faction (Vampire or Werewolf)
  • Speak with Elder Malachar in Duskveil Village
  • Win your first 3 arena fights
  • Collect 5 Bloodstone Fragments from the Cursed Forest
  • Defeat the Shade Sentinel (mini-boss, L5)

NPC Contacts

  • Elder Malachar — Duskveil Village square
  • Sera the Merchant — starter gear vendor
  • Commander Voss — arena registration

Chapter 1 doubles as the tutorial. The game walks you through the turn-based combat interface, introduces the inventory screen, and has you make your single most consequential choice: Vampire or Werewolf. This determines your base stat growth, faction rep multipliers, and which Chapter 3 story path you unlock. You can interact with both factions' NPCs throughout the game, but your core identity is locked at this point.

The Shade Sentinel mini-boss at Level 5 hits harder than the tutorial fights. Equip whatever Uncommon gear Sera sells and prioritise Attack over Defence at this stage — the boss has low HP and the fight ends quickly if you hit hard first.

Tip Pick up every item from the Cursed Forest zone even if you do not need it yet. Several mats dropped here are required for Chapter 2 crafting quests and will save you a return trip.

Chapter 2 — Blood and Bone (Levels 11–20)

Chapter 2

Blood and Bone

Level Range: 11–20  |  Estimated Time: 3–5 hours

Objectives

  • Complete Dungeon 1 (Bone Pits) at least once
  • Complete Dungeon 2 (The Undercroft) at least once
  • Collect 3 Shard Fragments from D1 and D2 bosses
  • Craft your first set piece at the Workshop
  • Speak with Archivist Deln in Ashveil City

NPC Contacts

  • Archivist Deln — Ashveil City Library
  • Dungeon Guide Rysk — D1 entrance
  • Master Craftsman Horvath — Workshop

This is where the game opens up. Dungeons D1 and D2 are solo-friendly at this level range, but grouping with another player increases your XP bonus by 5% per extra member and improves loot quality. The Shard Fragments are guaranteed drops from the final boss of each dungeon — do not leave without looting the boss chest.

Archivist Deln introduces the lore of the Crystal Shards themselves: seven ancient shards scattered across Aeternum during the First Sundering. She gives you the Scholar's Compendium, which tracks your Shard collection in the Codex. The Workshop crafting quest teaches you the basics of the 328-recipe crafting system — take your time here, as crafting mastery pays huge dividends at endgame.

Tip Both dungeon bosses (Plague Keeper in D1, Shadow Warden in D2) have a weak point rotation. Attack on rounds 2, 5, and 8 for guaranteed crits. If you hit those windows you will clear each dungeon 20–30% faster.

Chapter 3 — The Crimson Pact / The Pack's Oath (Levels 21–30)

Chapter 3

The Crimson Pact (Vampire)  /  The Pack's Oath (Werewolf)

Level Range: 21–30  |  Estimated Time: 4–6 hours

Objectives (Vampire Path)

  • Pledge loyalty to the Crimson Empire at the Blood Spire
  • Complete 5 Crimson Empire reputation quests
  • Win 10 arena duels using Vampire abilities
  • Recover the Crimson Shard from the Catacombs of Vael

Objectives (Werewolf Path)

  • Swear the Pack Oath at Howling Peaks
  • Complete 5 Pack Clans reputation quests
  • Participate in 3 clan hunts
  • Recover the Moonstone Shard from the Feral Warrens

Chapter 3 is your faction deep-dive. Both paths grant equivalent power but very different cosmetics and NPC relationships. Vampire players deal with the aristocratic politics of the Crimson Empire while Werewolf players navigate the tribal honour codes of the Pack Clans. The reputation quests here (5 required) also count toward your permanent faction standing, so they are doubly valuable.

The dungeon at the end of each path — Catacombs of Vael (Vampire) and Feral Warrens (Werewolf) — is a level-gated solo instance with a fixed difficulty. The bosses here drop the third Crystal Shard, setting up the collection arc that runs through the rest of the game. Both bosses have a dodge mechanic: watch for the yellow warning animation on round 3 and switch to Defence stance to halve the incoming damage.

Tip The 5 reputation quests unlock at Familiar tier (20 rep). If you have been doing side quests, you may already be there. Check your faction panel before starting Chapter 3 — you might finish faster than expected.

Chapter 4 — Shadows of Aeternum (Levels 31–45)

Chapter 4

Shadows of Aeternum

Level Range: 31–45  |  Estimated Time: 6–10 hours

Objectives

  • Enter the Corruption Wastes (unlocked at L31)
  • Cleanse 3 Corruption zones using Crystal item 701
  • Avoid Corruption spread for 6 consecutive hours
  • Speak with the Void Scholar Aevris in Ruined Ashveil
  • Complete Dungeons D3, D4, and D5
  • Recover Shards #4 and #5 from D4 and D5 bosses

NPC Contacts

  • Void Scholar Aevris — Ruined Ashveil
  • Alchemist Brynn — sells Crystal item 701
  • Watcher Sentinel Kael — zone patrol quests

Chapter 4 is a significant difficulty spike and introduces the Corruption system — the most punishing mechanic in the game. Corrupted zones spread their debuff to characters every 6 hours if the zone is not cleansed. While Corrupted, you suffer -15% to all stats, which can make dungeon runs and arena fights noticeably harder.

The solution is Crystal item 701 (Crystal Purifier), purchasable from Alchemist Brynn for 500 Gold each. You need 3 for the quest objectives, but buy 5 — you will use the extras for emergencies. Each purifier cleanses a zone for 12 hours. Pro players coordinate zone cleanses with their clanmates to keep corruption suppressed around the clock.

Dungeons D3, D4, and D5 introduce proper mechanics: D3 has a poison floor DoT, D4 has a rage timer (kill boss within 15 rounds), and D5 boss Ashveil Wraith reduces your max HP by 10% per round unless interrupted. These dungeons can still be soloed at maximum level for the range, but bringing one partner dramatically reduces wipe risk.

Tip Time your Crystal Purifier use just after a Corruption wave hits — the in-game Corruption Timer (top right UI) shows the next spread event. Using a purifier 10 minutes before the wave wastes most of its duration.

Chapter 5 — The War Eternal (Levels 46–60)

Chapter 5

The War Eternal

Level Range: 46–60  |  Estimated Time: 1–2 weeks (event-dependent)

Objectives

  • Register for the Eclipse War (next available cycle)
  • Participate in at least 10 Eclipse War battles
  • Reach Gold rank in the Eclipse War ELO ladder
  • Complete 20 arena fights (any result counts)
  • Recover Shard #6 from D6 (Sunken Crypts) boss

NPC Contacts

  • War Marshal Edric — Eclipse War registration
  • Arena Master Zoln — ELO rank tracking
  • Shadow Broker Vel — intelligence quests

Chapter 5 is the longest chapter by real-world time because progression depends on the Eclipse War — a recurring faction PvP event tied to the game calendar. If the Eclipse War is not active when you hit Level 46, you will wait until the next cycle. Check the in-game Events calendar and plan accordingly; many players run side content and rep farming during the wait.

Reaching Gold rank in the Eclipse War ELO ladder requires roughly 6–8 wins out of 10 battles at the Bronze/Silver threshold. The ELO system is standard: wins gain points, losses lose points, opponent strength modifies the delta. Focus on fighting opponents within ±100 ELO of your rating for the most efficient gains. The Unbound faction offers +5% ELO point gain at Respected rep, which is worth farming before this chapter.

Tip D6 (Sunken Crypts) requires 2–3 players. The Crypt Lord boss uses an AoE stun every 5 rounds — make sure someone in your party has a Stun Resistance accessory or the stun will lock your whole team for 2 rounds and cost you the fight.

Chapter 6 — Ascension (Levels 61–75)

Chapter 6

Ascension

Level Range: 61–75  |  Estimated Time: 2–3 weeks

Objectives

  • Reach Infinity Tower Floor 50
  • Unlock the Prestige system (auto-unlocks at L70)
  • Complete D7 (Infernal Wastes) and D8 (Frozen Citadel)
  • Defeat 5 world-roaming Elite enemies
  • Recover Shard #7 from D8 boss (Ice Queen)

NPC Contacts

  • Tower Keeper Osyn — Infinity Tower entrance
  • Prestige Master Vaela — Prestige system NPC
  • Void Covenant Elder — endgame faction quests

Chapter 6 is the endgame on-ramp. The Infinity Tower is a solo-progression challenge where each floor increases enemy stats by approximately 3%. Floor 50 is a meaningful milestone — enemies at this floor have roughly 4× the stats of floor 1 opponents, so your gear needs to be Rare+ and well-upgraded. The Tower resets weekly, rewarding consistent effort over time.

The Prestige system, unlocked at Level 70, allows you to reset your character to Level 1 in exchange for permanent passive bonuses (+2% to all stats per prestige, stackable). Many endgame players prestige 3–5 times before tackling Chapter 7. It is optional for quest completion but highly recommended for the final boss.

D7 and D8 are serious party content. D7's Lava Titan enrages at 30% HP and deals 2× damage — burst DPS is essential. D8's Ice Queen summons 4 adds at 50% HP; your party must split focus to kill the adds or they will overwhelm you. See the Party Dungeon Guide for full composition recommendations.

Tip The Ice Queen (D8 boss) drops Shard #7 only on first clear per week. If your group wipes, you do not lose the weekly lockout — the loot is tied to your first successful kill. Re-clear attempts still give loot, just not the quest Shard.

Chapter 7 — The Crystal Throne (Levels 76–80)

Chapter 7 — FINAL

The Crystal Throne

Level Range: 76–80  |  Recommended: All 7 Shards collected, party of 5

Objectives

  • Combine all 7 Crystal Shards at the Shardforge
  • Challenge the Crystal Throne (world boss portal)
  • Defeat the Crystal Golem (world boss)
  • Claim the Crystal Crown and return it to Elder Malachar

NPC Contacts

  • Elder Malachar — final return quest
  • Shardforge Keeper Ilys — combines the 7 Shards
  • Void Covenant Elder — optional post-quest lore

This is it. Chapter 7 culminates in a world boss fight against the Crystal Golem — a shared encounter that any number of players can join but is balanced around a coordinated group of 5. The Golem has three phases:

At completion, Shardforge Keeper Ilys permanently records your name in the Crystal Champion Registry, and Elder Malachar grants you the Crystal Champion title — one of only a handful of Mythic-tier titles in the game. The final reward selection lets you choose one of four Mythic accessories, each tuned to a different playstyle.

Tip Co-ordinate your party's Crystal Purifier use during Phase 2. Each player should hold 3 purifiers going in. Rotate usage so there is always at least one active purifier effect in the group — this prevents the Corruption stacking from ever reaching the -15% stat threshold.
