Companion System Overview

You can equip one companion at a time. Companions gain XP from your battles and activities, leveling from 1 to 20. Each companion has 5 skills that unlock at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20. Higher-level companions provide dramatically stronger bonuses, so investing XP into a single companion (rather than spreading it across multiple) is the optimal strategy early on.

Companions also provide gathering bonuses that activate during gathering profession activities. Some companions boost item drop rates in specific regions, while others provide universal bonuses like extra materials or XP.

Companion XP thresholds are consistent across all companions: Level 2 requires 100 XP, Level 5 requires 500 XP, Level 10 requires 2,000 XP, Level 15 requires 5,000 XP, and Level 20 requires 10,000 XP. The grind from level 15 to 20 is the longest and requires sustained dedication.

Companion Tier List

Tier Companion Reason
S-TierVoid Sprite+10% all stats is unmatched. Best endgame companion for all content. Reality Tear (15% nullify) is absurdly powerful in PvP.
S-TierAncient Eye (Prestige)Scales infinitely with prestige levels. At Prestige 3+, it surpasses every other companion in raw stats.
A-TierShadow Wolf (Werewolf)+10% STR base + Pack Howl (+20% ATK for 3 turns) makes it the strongest combat companion for Werewolves.
A-TierBat Familiar (Vampire)+8% life steal base makes Vampires nearly unkillable. Shadow Form at Lv. 20 adds defensive utility.
A-TierMoon Spirit+15% magic damage + +10% XP is the best leveling companion. Ideal for mid-game progression.
B-TierFrost LynxIce Claw freeze and +25% dodge make it a PvP specialist, but lacks versatility outside PvP.
B-TierInfernal Imp+20-30% gold is essential for economic play, but provides minimal combat power.
B-TierNight Raven+10% Legendary drop at Lv. 20 is incredible for farming, but LCK does little in combat.
B-TierBone Golem+15% DEF and Stone Wall make it a solid tank companion, but outclassed by race companions and Void Sprite.
B-TierAlchemical HomunculusEssential for dedicated crafters (-30% craft cost/time at Lv. 20), but useless in combat.

Best Companion for PvE

For general PvE content (dungeons, quests, monster farming), the best companion depends on your level and race:

  • Early game (Lv. 10-30): Use your race companion (Bat Familiar or Shadow Wolf). Their early availability and strong combat skills accelerate your leveling through early dungeons.
  • Mid game (Lv. 30-50): Switch to the Moon Spirit for its +10% XP bonus and +15% magic damage. The XP boost compounds over time, getting you to endgame faster.
  • Endgame (Lv. 50+): Use the Void Sprite once you unlock it. The +10% all stats is unbeatable for dungeon pushing and raid bosses.

Best Companion for PvP

PvP companion choice depends on your build and strategy:

  • Aggressive PvP: Shadow Wolf (Werewolf) or Bat Familiar (Vampire) for raw damage output and sustain. Pack Howl's +20% ATK for 3 turns can end fights quickly.
  • Defensive PvP: Frost Lynx with its +25% dodge at Lv. 20 and Ice Claw freeze makes you incredibly frustrating to fight in the Arena.
  • Endgame PvP: Void Sprite dominates. Reality Tear (15% chance to nullify any attack) and +10% all stats make it the clear best-in-slot for competitive PvP.

Best Companion for Farming

If your goal is wealth accumulation through gathering and gold farming:

  • Gold farming: Infernal Imp (+20% gold base, +30% at Lv. 20). Pair with our Gold Farming Guide for maximum earnings.
  • Item farming: Night Raven (+15% LCK, +35% item find, +10% Legendary drop at Lv. 20). Best for dungeon drop farming.
  • Crafting materials: Alchemical Homunculus (+2 materials per gather action, -30% craft cost at Lv. 20). Essential for dedicated crafters.

Leveling Your Companion

Companion XP is earned passively through all combat activities. The fastest way to level your companion is to maximize your daily combat output — dungeon clears, arena matches, quest battles, and raid bosses all contribute companion XP. At level 20, your companion gains its most powerful ability, so reaching this milestone should be a priority.

LEVELING TIP

Focus on leveling one companion to 20 before investing in a second. A single level 20 companion is vastly more powerful than three level 10 companions. Choose your main companion based on your primary activity (PvE, PvP, or farming) and commit to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch companions freely?

Yes, you can switch your active companion at any time from the companion menu. There is no cooldown or cost to switch. However, only your active companion earns XP.

Do I lose companion XP when I switch?

No. Each companion retains its own XP and level permanently. You can switch back and forth without any XP loss.

Which companion should a new player unlock first?

Your race companion (Bat Familiar or Shadow Wolf) at level 10 for 500 gold. It is the cheapest, earliest, and most impactful companion for the first 20-30 levels of gameplay. Read the Beginner's Guide for more first-steps advice.

Is the Night Raven worth 800 gems?

For dedicated item farmers, yes. The +10% Legendary drop chance at level 20 pays for itself many times over. For general players, save your gems for the Battle Pass instead and unlock the Night Raven later.

Does the Ancient Eye scale infinitely?

The +5% all stats per prestige level continues to scale with each prestige. At Prestige 5, the Ancient Eye provides +25% to all stats — making it the most powerful companion in the game by a significant margin. It is the ultimate long-term investment for dedicated players who pursue the Prestige system.
