Neither faction fully understands its origin. The Crystal appears every 100 years during a Blood Moon convergence, granting immense power — but always at a cost. Both Vampires and Werewolves have shaped their entire civilizations around controlling it.
Origins & History
Year 0: Malachar is bitten by something from the Void, becomes the first vampire, and starts a war that has lasted 3,000 years. The event that changed everything.
A complete timeline of Aeternum's history from Year 0 to the present — five eras, seven major wars, two failed peace accords, and one unfinished war.

Factions & Power Structures
Seven Great Houses controlling vampire civilization from the Citadel of Blood. House Malachar, Cassivara, Voryn, Dusk, Nightmoor, Vael, and Obsidian — all in constant political war with each other.
Five founding packs governing werewolf society through ancient pack law. Five Peaks, Storm Plains, Ashwood, Deep Wilds, and the absent Moonborn — each with different philosophies on the war.
The third faction — void scholars who claim neutrality but shape both sides' decisions. Five-tier hierarchy from Seekers to the Void-Touched. They know where the Eclipse Blade is.
The fifth founding pack who left the Howling Peaks in Year 847. Moon-touched mediators, Wolfstone guardians, and the closest thing to a peacekeeping faction in a war with no peace.
Gods & Pantheons
Five entities that are not gods in any conventional sense: The Hunger, The Silence, The Echo, The Void Itself, and The Watcher. They did not create the Void. They are what the Void became aware of.
Selara the Moon Goddess and Keth the Sun God — the two deities actively involved in Aeternum's fate. The Eternal War may be their proxy conflict, not the vampires' and werewolves' own.
Five gods who built Aeternum and then left: The Architect, The Weaver, The Singer, The Keeper, The Unnamed. They left behind the Blood Moon Crystal. They may still be watching.
Legendary Artifacts
Malachar's preserved heart, still beating after 3,000 years. Powers the entire vampire Blood Covenant network. Contains a Resurrection Clause that could end the world.
A fragment of the original moon given by Selara to the first wolves. Provides Void Resistance, Pack Memory, and Lunar Resonance. The Heartstone is buried beneath the Howling Peaks.
Made by the Forgotten Gods as a balance meter. Now a weapon both factions fight over every 77 days. Can amplify vampire and werewolf power equally — and destroy both if overloaded.
Made by a vampire and a werewolf together to fight the Void. Can permanently kill either faction. Lost for 400 years. Both sides spend enormous resources searching for it.
Locations & Zones
Built over 3,000 years from Malachar's single obsidian tower. Part palace, part reliquary, part weapon. Home of the Crimson Court and the Heart of Darkness. Never successfully invaded.
The highest mountains in Aeternum — where the first transformation occurred, where the Wolfstone Heartstone rests, and where vampire magic fails above 4,000 metres altitude.
200 kilometres of ruins, ancient battlefields, and one permanent magical catastrophe (the Shatter Fields). Both factions claim it. Neither controls it. The Eternal War's daily battleground.
A permanent rift between Aeternum and the Void. Cannot be closed. Three thousand years of attempts have proven this. Void incursions are increasing. Something is coming.
