Aeternum is not only the players who wage its eternal war. Behind every counter, beneath every dungeon gate, and beside every arena entrance stand the Lords and Keepers of Aeternum — the 14 NPCs who serve as the living infrastructure of the game world. They are shopkeepers, quest givers, trainers, gatekeepers, and, for those who dig deep enough into the lore, central figures in Aeternum's hidden history.
This guide covers all 14 NPCs: who they are, what services they provide, their faction affiliations, and the lore fragments that reveal their true significance. Whether you are a new arrival looking to navigate the shops, or a veteran chasing the last puzzle pieces of the pre-Schism lore, this is your complete reference.
NPC Overview by Category
Aeternum's NPCs fall into five functional categories:
- Shopkeepers (5): General Store, Vampire Emporium, Wolf Den, Black Market, Gem Shop
- Crafters (2): The Forge Master and the Alchemist
- Quest Givers (4): faction-aligned and neutral
- Special Roles (3): Arena Master, Dungeon Keeper, Tutorial Guide
The Shopkeepers
The most frequently visited NPC in the game. Mira stocks basic weapons, armour, and consumables available to both factions. Her prices are fair and her selection rotates every 24 hours with the daily deals system. Lore: Mira is the descendant of a Primordi merchant family that survived the Schism by trading with both emerging bloodlines simultaneously. Her neutrality is ancestral, not a business decision.
General StoreNeutral
The exclusive vendor for vampire-aligned equipment: shadow-forged weapons, blood armour, and crimson artifacts. Vespar speaks in courtly archaic dialect and offers subtle commentary on your current gear. Lore: A former general of the Crimson Empire's Third Legion, disgraced after the Battle of the Shattered Flats. He runs the Emporium as penance — or so he claims.
Vampire GearVampire
Werewolf-exclusive vendor. Barka stocks lunar-forged axes, fang-claw armour, and pack trinkets. Her inventory leans toward high-attack, lower-defence items reflecting the werewolf philosophy of aggressive combat. Lore: Barka was the personal armourer to Fangpack Grimash before she retired from active pack service to "serve those who will eventually need better gear than they currently have."
Werewolf GearWerewolf
Unknown identity, unknown faction. The Black Market stocks rare items, contraband equipment, and cross-faction gear unavailable elsewhere. Items rotate unpredictably. Lore: No confirmed identity. Scholars believe The Faceless Trader may be one of the last pure-blood Primordi, maintaining neutrality by concealing their nature from both factions. This has never been confirmed in-game.
Rare ItemsUnknown
Vendor for the premium currency (Blood Crystals) cosmetic and convenience store. Celeste is unfailingly cheerful, which many players find either reassuring or suspicious. She sells avatar frames, weapon effects, inventory expansion, and timer boosts. Lore: Celeste is a construct — an artificial being created by the Primordi as a commerce facilitator. She does not know this.
Premium ShopNeutral
The Crafters
Master of weapon and armour crafting. Aldric processes your crafting materials and queues production for the Forge (weapon/armour) tree. He can craft any of the 174 weapon and armour recipes currently available. Speaks almost exclusively in metallurgical metaphors. Lore: Aldric holds a replica of the original Kheth'Moran Technical Ledger and is the only living being who can read it fluently. He considers this a burden rather than a gift.
Forge CraftingNeutral
Handles the Alchemy crafting tree: potions, elixirs, enchantment materials, and consumables. Sylara's workshop is perpetually filled with coloured smoke and she greets every player the same way: "What are you trying to become?" Lore: Sylara's surname — Veth — is a Primordi word meaning "ambient celestial energy." She claims it is a coincidence. It is not.
Alchemy CraftingNeutral
The Quest Givers
Supreme leader of the Crimson Empire and the primary quest giver for vampire story quests. Malachar assigns the Crystal Shard quest chain and the faction war assignments. His dialogue grows more cryptic as players progress through his quest line, hinting at knowledge of the Primordi he has not shared with his court. Lore: Malachar is over 800 years old — the longest-lived vampire on record. He personally witnessed events that no living being has corroborated.
Story QuestsVampire
Alpha of Alphas. Grimash leads the Pack Clans coalition and assigns werewolf story quests, Crystal Shard missions, and war council tasks. He is direct where Malachar is subtle; aggressive where Malachar is measured. Both are, according to the lore, hiding the same secret about the Crystal from their respective factions. Lore: Grimash carries the only surviving fragment of the original Primordi retrieval team's mission log.
Story QuestsWerewolf
Assigns neutral side quests, lore recovery missions, and the cross-faction "Fractured Truce" questline. The Scholar appears at different locations each day — always in Aeternum Plaza, but at different coordinates. Players must speak with Mira Coldwater first to learn the Scholar's current position. Lore: The Scholar refuses to give a name. Their equipment includes Pre-Schism artifacts that neither faction has been able to identify or replicate.
Side QuestsNeutral
Assigns the daily mission board: hunting quotas, collection tasks, and time-limited challenges. Luvaine resets her board at midnight UTC and greets returning players with commentary on their previous day's performance. Lore: Luvaine is a former combatant, not a pacifist. The scars on her hands are from the Battle of Moonveil Crossing. She runs the Sanctuary as a deliberate act of atonement.
Daily MissionsNeutral
The Special Roles
Oversees the PvP Arena. Cael manages matchmaking, ELO rankings, and the weekly PvP leaderboard. He provides the
PvP portal and the bounty board.
Lore: Dorn has presided over the Grand Arena for 200 years. He is the only NPC in the game who will comment differently on your character depending on your current ELO ranking — lower-ranked players receive encouragement; top-ranked players receive quiet warnings.
PvP ArenaNeutral
Controls access to all 10 dungeons. Torvin manages cooldown timers, provides dungeon briefings, and sells the rare Dungeon Keys required for D8–D10 access. His briefings contain factual information about dungeon mechanics and hidden lore fragments. Lore: Torvin descended into Dungeon D10 once, before he became the Keeper. He will not speak about what he found.
DungeonsNeutral
Meets every new player at The Threshold — Aeternum's entry point — and guides them through the tutorial sequence, including the tutorial battle against the Weakened Zombie. Elen's dialogue adapts slightly to the player's chosen faction. Lore: Elen has guided every new arrival into Aeternum since the current age began. She has no memory of doing this. Every morning she wakes at The Threshold believing it is her first day, ready to help whoever is next.

Hidden NPC Interactions
Several NPCs have non-obvious interactions that long-time players have documented:
- Mira Coldwater + The Faceless Trader: If you visit Mira directly after visiting the Black Market on the same day, she will say "The old one was here again, was it?" and offer a small discount. This triggers once per account.
- Aldric Grimstone + Sylara Veth: If you complete a combined crafting achievement (items from both Forge and Alchemy), Aldric will acknowledge Sylara's work unprompted — one of the only dialogues in the game where two NPCs reference each other.
- Torvin the Deep + The Wandering Scholar: After completing the Crystal Shard quest chain, revisit Torvin. He will give you a brief dialogue that directly contradicts one statement the Scholar made during the quest chain. Neither NPC will explain the contradiction.
- Elen Ashwhisper at Prestige 5: Returning to The Threshold at maximum Prestige level triggers a unique Elen dialogue where she briefly appears to remember previous visits — before reverting to her standard greeting mid-sentence.
FAQ: NPC Guide
Can I visit NPCs from the opposing faction?
Yes. All NPCs are accessible to both factions, but faction-exclusive vendors (Vespar Duskblood and Barka Ironpaw) will only sell faction-appropriate gear. Cross-faction shopping produces sarcastic refusals for restricted items, but the NPCs do not attack you.
Do NPCs give bonus items or dialogue if you meet them in a certain order?
Several hidden interactions depend on order of visit (as documented above). The game does not signal these interactions — they are meant to be discovered through exploration. More are planned for future updates.
Are there more NPCs planned?
Yes. The development roadmap includes additional seasonal NPCs who appear only during Blood Moon events and Eclipse War periods, as well as a planned expansion to the Lore Scholar NPC system that will allow deeper investigation into Primordi history.
What is the lore significance of Celeste Aura being a construct?
If Celeste is genuinely a Primordi construct, then the Gem Shop is not merely a convenience — it is a surviving piece of Primordi commercial infrastructure running on a 1000-year-old directive. What the directive originally was, and whether Celeste's cheerfulness is a personality feature or a side effect of directive corruption, remains unanswered.
