The gathering professions in Vampires vs. Werewolves are the economic backbone of the game. Every consumable that powers a Mythic+ run, every crafted weapon that competes with dungeon drops, and every piece of enchanted armor starts with raw materials pulled from the ground, plucked from wild plants, or stripped from defeated creatures. Mastering Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning is not just for dedicated crafters — it is a direct path to Gold, rare materials, and self-sufficiency that benefits every player regardless of their primary focus.

This guide covers all three gathering professions in exhaustive detail: the XP curve from level 1 to 100, the best farming routes for every level range, profit analysis for each material tier, rare drop mechanics, and the idle gathering system that lets you progress while offline.

Profession System Overview

Every character in Vampires vs. Werewolves can learn all three gathering professions simultaneously. There is no need to choose — you can be a master Miner, Herbalist, and Skinner on a single character. Each profession levels independently from 1 to 100, with the XP required per level following an exponential curve.

XP Curve

Level RangeXP per LevelTotal XP to ReachEstimated Time (Active)Estimated Time (Idle)
1 – 20100 – 5006,0001 – 2 hours3 – 5 hours
21 – 40500 – 2,00031,0004 – 6 hours12 – 18 hours
41 – 602,000 – 8,000131,00010 – 15 hours30 – 45 hours
61 – 808,000 – 25,000461,00025 – 35 hours75 – 100 hours
81 – 10025,000 – 80,0001,511,00050 – 70 hours150 – 200 hours

Active gathering (manually moving between nodes) provides approximately 3x the XP per hour compared to idle gathering. However, idle gathering runs 24/7 while you are offline, making it the primary progression method for most players. The optimal strategy is to actively gather during play sessions and idle-gather during downtime.

Profession Mastery Bonus Reaching level 100 in any gathering profession unlocks a permanent Mastery Bonus: +10% yield from that profession forever. Additionally, level 100 gatherers have a 5% chance to gather double materials from any node, making the grind to max level an investment that pays for itself over time.

Mining

Mining extracts ores and gems from mineral nodes scattered across the game world. Ores are refined into bars at a Forge, which are then used by Blacksmiths to craft weapons and heavy armor. Gems are used by Jewelers for accessories and enchantments. Mining is the most profitable gathering profession overall due to the constant demand for bars and gems across all crafting disciplines.

Best Mining Routes by Level Range

Levels 1–30: Start in Ashenvale Outskirts for Copper Ore. The circuit has 12 nodes with a 3-minute respawn timer, making it the fastest early leveling route. At level 15, transition to Duskwood Foothills for Iron Ore — the XP per node more than doubles. At level 25, move to Silverblood Mines surface for Silver Ore, which offers the densest node concentration in the mid-game.

Levels 30–60: Silverblood Mines remains excellent through level 45. At level 40, Wolfbane Cliffs becomes available for Darksteel Ore. The Cliffs have fewer nodes per circuit but significantly higher XP per node. Run the Wolfbane circuit in approximately 4 minutes, netting 990 XP per loop. This is the most efficient XP per minute in the mid-range.

Levels 60–100: Crimson Peaks for Bloodstone Ore (levels 55–75) is a competitive zone — expect other miners. Abyssal Depths for Shadowmetal Ore (levels 70–90) is less contested but the zone contains aggressive mobs. Void Crystal Ore at the Eternal Nighthold exterior (levels 85–100) requires high combat level to survive the enemies guarding nodes. The XP is exceptional but the time per node is longer due to combat requirements.

Mining Secret: Gem Procs Every mining node has a chance to yield a gem alongside the ore. Gem proc rates increase with Mining level: 2% at level 1, scaling to 15% at level 100. Gems sell for 3–10x the price of the equivalent ore tier, making high-level mining even more profitable than the ore prices suggest.

Herbalism

Herbalism collects plants and fungi used by Alchemists to brew potions, elixirs, and flasks. In a game where consumables provide significant stat advantages in PvP and Mythic+ dungeons, Herbalism is the profession that directly fuels competitive play. Demand for herbs is constant and seasonal events can spike specific herb prices dramatically.

Best Herbalism Routes by Level Range

Levels 1–30: Silverwood Meadow is dense with Moonpetal nodes and completely safe (no hostile mobs). Transition to Howling Forest Edge at level 15 for Wolfsbane. The forest edge circuit takes approximately 3.5 minutes and contains 11 nodes. At level 25, Duskwood Undergrowth for Nightshade offers both good XP and valuable crafting materials for mid-game consumables.

Levels 30–60: Crimson Thicket is the premier mid-game Herbalism zone. Bloodthorn herbs are the crafting base for Elixir of Iron Will — the most-used PvP consumable in the game — meaning demand never drops. The circuit is tight (8 nodes, 3 minutes) and the zone is moderately contested during peak hours.

Levels 60–100: Abyssal Grotto for Shadowmoss (levels 55–75) requires a combat level of at least 45 to handle the ambient creatures. Void-Touched Gardens for Voidbloom (levels 70–90) is one of the most contested farming zones in the game due to the extreme value of Flask of Endless Night ingredients. Eternal Lotus at the Nighthold Conservatory (levels 85–100) is gated behind dungeon D10 completion as an access requirement.

Market Timing Herb prices spike every Monday and Tuesday as players stock up on consumables for the new Mythic+ weekly reset. Gathering on weekends (when prices are lowest and competition is lightest) and selling Monday morning can yield 20–30% premium over average prices.

Skinning

Skinning collects hides, pelts, and exotic materials from defeated creatures. Unlike Mining and Herbalism, which use static nodes, Skinning requires you to kill enemies first and then skin their corpses. This means Skinning is naturally bundled with combat XP — you gain gathering profession XP and combat XP simultaneously, making it the most time-efficient profession for players who are also leveling their combat skills.

Best Skinning Routes by Level Range

Levels 1–30: Ashenvale Wilds has a dense population of wolves that respawn quickly (45-second timers) and drop Tattered Hide consistently. Kill and skin in loops. At level 15, Howling Peaks dire wolves offer excellent XP per kill and valuable Thick Pelts that sell well to Leatherworkers leveling their craft.

Levels 30–60: Duskwood shadow beasts at level 25+ provide Shadow-Touched Leather, which is used in crafting medium armor — a universal demand item. At level 40, Crimson Wastes blood bats are the gold standard: they die quickly, spawn in massive packs, and Bloodhide sells consistently at high prices due to its use in Epic-tier armor patterns.

Levels 60–100: Lunar Hunting Grounds for Moonscale (levels 55–75) requires a strong combat build as the Lunar Beasts hit hard. Void Rifts for Voidweave Sinew (levels 70–90) only appear during periodic Void Rift events (every 4 hours, lasting 30 minutes), creating scarcity that drives prices up. Eternal Dragonhide (levels 85–100) drops exclusively from the Dragon's Maw world boss, which spawns once every 6 hours and requires a group to kill. This is the rarest gathering material in the game.

Idle Gathering System

One of the most valuable features for gatherers in Vampires vs. Werewolves is the idle gathering system. When you log off, you can assign your character to gather at any zone you have previously visited. Your character will automatically gather materials at approximately 33% the rate of active gathering, accumulating resources and XP while you are away.

Idle Gathering Efficiency

Idle Optimization Set your idle gathering to the highest-level zone you can access before logging off. Even if the active route is suboptimal, idle gathering ignores node density and route efficiency — it simply generates materials at a flat rate. Always idle-gather the highest-value material your level allows.

Rare Material Drops

Each gathering profession has rare materials that drop with low probability from high-level nodes. These materials are used in crafting the most powerful items in the game and command extreme market prices:

Rare MaterialProfessionSourceDrop RateMarket PriceUsed In
Prismatic GemMiningAny ore node (level 60+)0.5%5,000 GoldMythic Jewelry crafting

Primordial SinewSkinningAny creature (level 65+)0.8%4,000 GoldMythic Armor crafting
Dragon's BloodSkinningDragon's Maw world boss10%8,000 GoldLegendary weapon infusion

Rare material drops are not affected by gathering speed or tool quality — they are purely probabilistic per node interaction. The only way to increase your chances is to gather more nodes. This makes dedicated farming sessions the most reliable path to rare material acquisition.

Profit Maximization Strategies

To maximize your gathering income, follow these principles:

  1. Diversify your professions: Level all three gathering professions simultaneously. This lets you farm whichever material currently has the highest market price, rather than being locked into one profession's price fluctuations.
  2. Track market cycles: Herb prices spike Monday/Tuesday (Mythic+ reset), Ore prices spike Wednesday/Thursday (mid-week crafting demand), and Leather prices are most stable (consistent demand). Plan your gathering sessions around these cycles.
  3. Sell refined, not raw: If you have even basic crafting skills, processing raw materials into bars, potions, or cut leather increases profit by 30–50% compared to selling raw materials. The crafting time investment is minimal.
  4. Target rare drops during events: Seasonal events occasionally double rare material drop rates. During these events, switch all gathering activity to high-level zones and farm aggressively. One event weekend can fund a month of play.
  5. Idle gather high-value materials overnight: Even at 33% efficiency, idle gathering Void Crystal Ore generates approximately 1,700 Gold worth of materials over an 8-hour sleep cycle. Over a month, that is 51,000 Gold for zero active effort.

Gathering Tools & Upgrades

Each profession uses a specific tool that affects gathering speed and bonus yield:

Tool TierGathering Speed BonusBonus Yield ChanceIdle Speed BonusAcquisition Method
ApprenticeBase speed0%NoneStarting tool (free)
Journeyman+10%+3%+5%Crafted (Blacksmith L20)
Expert+25%+7%+12%Crafted (Blacksmith L40)

Master+60%+18%+30%Crafted (Blacksmith L80) + rare material
Grandmaster+80%+25%+40%Crafted (Blacksmith L100) + Dragon's Blood

Upgrading your gathering tools is one of the highest-ROI investments in the game. A Grandmaster pickaxe increases your Mining income by approximately 80% during active sessions and 40% during idle sessions. The crafting cost is significant (requiring Dragon's Blood from the world boss), but the tool pays for itself within a week of dedicated gathering.
