Loot is the language of power in Aeternum. Every blade, cloak, ring and rune you scavenge from the dark falls into one of five categories and clicks into one of eleven equipment slots. This hub maps the whole system — what each category does, where it goes on your character, and which item types you will chase from the first grove to the last boss beyond the Rift.

Equipment Slot Overview

A character equips eleven items at once. One-handed weapons fill the two hand slots independently for dual-wielding; a two-handed weapon or a shield changes how those slots behave.

Frequently Asked Questions

What item categories are there?

Five: Weapons, Armor, Accessories, Consumables and Runes. Weapons and armor take equipment slots, accessories add stats and effects, consumables are one-use, and runes socket into gear.

How many equipment slots does a character have?

Eleven: main hand, off hand, head, chest, hands, legs, feet, two rings, an amulet and a cloak. Consumables use quickbar slots instead of equip slots.

Can I dual-wield weapons?

Yes. One-handed weapons fill the main-hand and off-hand slots independently. Two-handed weapons occupy both at once, and a shield fills the off-hand for defence.

What are runes and how do sockets work?

Runes are inserted into sockets on Epic and higher gear to add stats or unique effects. Higher rarities carry more sockets — Epic has one, Legendary two. See the runes and rarity guides.

Do consumables share a cooldown?

Potions of the same family share a category cooldown, but different families — healing, buff, elixir, food — run independent timers, so you can stack effects across categories.

Where do the best items drop?

Named monsters, bosses and endgame dungeons drop the highest-rarity gear. Weaker items and crafting materials come from regular monsters. The drop tables list exact sources per item.

Are weapons faction-locked?

Most gear is usable by both vampires and werewolves. A handful of race-signature pieces are faction-flavoured, and damage typing like Silver or Wolfsbane is strongest against the opposing race.

What is item level versus rarity?

Item level sets base stat magnitude and the level you can equip an item. Rarity multiplies that base and adds sockets and effects. A high item-level Common can rival a lower item-level Rare.

Can I upgrade or reforge gear?

Yes. Crafting stations let you enchant, socket runes and reforge secondary stats. Wearing multiple matching pieces grants set bonuses.

How do I compare two items quickly?

Check rarity colour first for the stat budget, then item level for base magnitude, then sockets and set membership. The rarity guide and sets pages explain each factor.
