From the First Bite at Ashbridge to the current Third Eclipse War — a complete chronology of every major event that shaped Aeternum. Use this as your guide to understanding why the world is the way it is when your character arrives.
Year 0 – 87
Era I: The First Eclipse War
- Year 0The First Bite at Ashbridge. Elder Vampire Malachar uses Crimson Reach on Wolf King Skarr Ironhide during trade negotiations. Skarr is transformed into the first Bloodwolf.
- Year 0The Blood Moon Crystal forms from spilled blood at the neutral ground of Ashbridge. Neither race can claim it.
- Year 1Five Pack Elders declare Blood Debt against vampire nation. First Eclipse War begins.
- Year 1Vampire raiding force burns the Ashbridge Duskmarket. 200 werewolf traders killed.
- Year 12Battle of the Howling Peaks. Vampire forces attempt to breach werewolf homeland. Repelled with massive casualties on both sides.
- Year 34Siege of the Black Citadel. Wolf packs breach the outer walls. Malachar uses Blood Storm ritual to destroy the attacking force — and a quarter of the Citadel itself.
- Year 67First Void Incursion. Creatures from the Void dimension begin appearing in the Ashen Wastes. Both factions forced to pause hostilities.
- Year 72–80The Necessary Alliance. Vampire-werewolf joint forces defeat the Void Incursion at the Battle of the Ashen Gate.
- Year 87First Eclipse War ends by mutual exhaustion. No formal treaty. The Necessary Alliance dissolves within a year.
Year 87 – 800
Era II: The Long Silence & Second Eclipse War
- Year 90Crimson Court established. Seven noble vampire houses form collective governance to prevent unilateral action.
- Year 95Iron Council formed. Five Pack Elders institutionalize werewolf governance, superseding individual Alpha authority.
- Year 100First Blood Moon Convergence. The Crystal reappears at Ashbridge. Both factions attempt to claim it; both fail. 40 dead. Crystal vanishes again.
- Year 200Blood Moon Convergence #2. Vampire elder Cassivara the White successfully makes contact with the Crystal. Reports "a vision of the war's true cost." Refuses to discuss details. Dies three months later.
- Year 450Second Eclipse War begins over control of the Moonstone Mines in the disputed Ashwood Forest.
- Year 512Battle of Ashwood. Largest single engagement in Aeternum history. Combined casualties: over 80,000.
- Year 600Treaty of Ashwood. Moonstone Mines declared neutral territory, administered jointly. Second Eclipse War ends.
- Year 650The Great Schism. Internal vampire civil war: Pureblood faction vs. Half-blood faction. 50-year conflict that nearly destroys vampire civilization from within.
- Year 700Schism ends with Pureblood compromise. Half-bloods gain legal status but remain second-class citizens.
Year 800 – 1,800
Era III: The Age of Shadows
- Year 800Shadow Covenant founded. Secret vampire cult begins operating in the Void-adjacent regions of the Ashen Wastes.
- Year 900Third Blood Moon Convergence. The Crystal destroys an entire vampire expedition sent to claim it. 200 dead in a single night.
- Year 1,100Moonborn Tribe emerges among werewolves. Ancient shamans claim direct communion with the Moon Goddess Selara. Begin preserving pre-war lore texts.
- Year 1,200Discovery of Rune Magic. Werewolf shamans develop a system of combat runes derived from Moon Goddess teachings. Vampires later develop parallel system from Void experimentation.
- Year 1,500Third Eclipse War begins over assassination of a Crimson Court elder. Lasts 200 years.
- Year 1,700Second Void Incursion. More organized than the first. Joint vampire-werewolf force formed reluctantly. Incursion sealed at the Void Gate.
- Year 1,800Treaty of Tears. Third Eclipse War ends with a negotiated settlement. First formal peace treaty since the original Silver River Treaty.
Year 1,800 – 2,980
Era IV: The Long Peace & Subclass Wars
- Year 1,850First Prestige system codified among vampires. Elite warriors who "die and are reborn" at higher power levels formalized as a social class.
- Year 2,000Werewolves develop equivalent Prestige system — the Spirit Walk — through Moonborn Tribe spiritual practices.
- Year 2,100The Long Peace. 300 years of relative stability. Trade resumes at expanded Duskmarkets. Cultural exchange (restricted) begins.
- Year 2,400Subclass Wars. Internal faction conflicts on both sides as new subclasses (Shadow Assassin, Pack Shaman, Blood Mage, Moon Warrior) compete for political power.
- Year 2,600Dungeon Discovery era. Ancient structures beneath Aeternum's surface found to contain Void-era artifacts and pre-war technology. Both factions begin competitive dungeon exploration.
- Year 2,847Elder Cassivara III famously says: "We do not fight because we remember the First Bite. We fight because we have forgotten everything else."
- Year 2,980Treaty of Ashen Bridge signed. Most comprehensive peace accord in Aeternum history. 24 clauses covering trade, territory, shared resource zones, and annual diplomatic summits.
Year 2,980 – Present (3,000)
Era V: The Third Eclipse War — Current Era
- Year 2,982Werewolf champion Kael the Unbroken, during the Annual Summit, executes vampire ambassador Theron Dusk as retaliation for an alleged assassination of his pack elder. Treaty of Ashen Bridge shattered.
- Year 2,983Third Eclipse War officially declared. Iron Council votes unanimously. Crimson Court responds with Blood Mandate — full military mobilization.
- Year 2,990Siege of Ashbridge. Werewolf forces occupy the historic neutral ground. Blood Moon Crystal reportedly seen above the ruins for the first time in 200 years.
- Year 2,995Battle of Shadowfen. Vampire counterattack secures eastern territories. Front lines stabilize at the River of Tears — mirroring the original war's geography 3,000 years earlier.
- Year 3,000Present Day — Player Arrival. You enter Aeternum at the height of the Third Eclipse War. The Crystal has been seen three times in the past decade. The Void Gate shows signs of activity. Both factions are exhausted but neither will negotiate. And someone — or something — seems to want the war to continue.
In-game reflection: Many of the historical events above appear as quest lore, NPC dialogue, and collectible lore books found throughout the game world. High-level players who complete the "Aeternum Historian" achievement chain unlock the full Codex, revealing several events that neither faction's official history acknowledges.
