How to Link Discord Account — VvW
Category: Account · 2026-05-07
Steps
- Settings → Integrations: Click Discord → Link.
- Authorize via Discord OAuth: Grants role-assign permission.
- Verify: Bot DMs confirmation. Role appears in clan Discord.
- Auto-features: Push pings, voice-chat invite.
Why link Discord
The official VvW Discord has over 3,200 members and is where most of the game's real-time coordination happens — clan wars, LFG for dungeons, patch announcements, and community discussion all move faster there than in-game chat. Linking your account turns that server from a place you lurk into one where the game recognizes who you are:
- Clan coordination. Once linked, your clan role and tag can sync automatically, so your clanmates see who's who without manual role assignment, and clan-wars channels ping the right people during events.
- Patch and event notifications. Linked accounts can opt into push pings for patch announcements and events like Blood Moon, so you're not relying on remembering to check the announcements channel.
- LFG and voice access. Dungeon LFG channels and voice-chat invites are easier to use once your account is verified — some channels are gated behind linking specifically to cut down on spam from unverified accounts.
- Community participation. Verified accounts can post in the discussions and AMA threads that feed into official community pages, without a moderator having to manually confirm you're an actual player.
How the linking process works
From Settings → Integrations, click Discord → Link. This sends you through Discord's own OAuth authorization screen — you're logging into Discord, not giving VvW your Discord password. The permission requested is limited to role assignment inside the VvW server, not access to your other servers or personal messages. Once you approve, the game's Discord bot sends you a direct message confirming the link, and your role appears automatically in the clan's Discord channels within a few minutes.
This is the same OAuth pattern used by most game-Discord integrations: VvW never sees or stores your Discord password, because you authenticate directly with Discord and Discord hands back only a limited, revocable token. That token lets the bot assign roles and send you the confirmation DM — nothing more.
If you're in a clan, make sure you've joined the clan's Discord (or the main VvW server, if your clan uses it) before linking — the bot can only assign a role in servers you've already joined.
What the clan Discord actually looks like
Once linked, you'll notice channels like #clan-wars, where clanmates coordinate for events — a typical message might be a heads-up like "Eclipse War starts Sunday, gear up." Other channels handle LFG for dungeon groups, patch notes, and general discussion. Verified, linked accounts tend to get faster responses in these channels since regulars can see you're an actual registered player rather than an anonymous joiner, which matters most when you're trying to fill a dungeon group quickly or get a clan invite.
The server also hosts periodic AMAs and discussion threads that occasionally get referenced or excerpted on the community pages, so linking is also a way to be part of the conversation that shapes future patches, not just a passive notification feed.
Troubleshooting
No confirmation DM arrived. Check that your Discord privacy settings allow direct messages from server members — the bot can't message you if you've blocked DMs from the server. Adjust this under Discord's own Privacy Settings for the VvW server, then try relinking.
Role didn't appear in the clan Discord. Confirm you've actually joined that Discord server with the same Discord account you linked. If you have multiple Discord accounts, linking the wrong one is the most common cause of a missing role.
Need to unlink or relink. Go back to Settings → Integrations and choose Unlink, then repeat the Link → Authorize steps to reconnect, optionally with a different Discord account.
Authorization screen never loads. This is usually a popup blocker. Discord OAuth opens in a new window or tab — allow popups for duskmaw.com and try again.
Privacy — what's actually shared
Linking shares your Discord user ID and username with VvW so the bot can assign the correct role, and shares your VvW clan/account info with the bot so it knows what role to assign. It does not give VvW access to your Discord messages, other servers, or friends list — the OAuth scope is limited to identity and role management inside the VvW server specifically. You can revoke access at any time from Discord's own Authorized Apps settings, in addition to unlinking from VvW's settings.
FAQ
Is linking Discord required to play? No, it's entirely optional. It unlocks clan role sync, notifications, and some LFG/voice features, but you can play and progress fully without it.
Does linking cost anything? No, linking Discord is free and doesn't affect gameplay mechanics, drops, or progression.
Can I link more than one Discord account? No, only one Discord account can be linked per VvW account at a time — linking a new one replaces the previous link.
What happens if I leave my clan after linking? Your clan-specific role is removed, but the account-level link to Discord itself stays active until you manually unlink it.
Will unlinking Discord delete my clan or account data? No, unlinking only removes the Discord connection and its automatic role sync — your character, clan membership, and progress are unaffected.
Do I need to be in a clan to link Discord? No, you can link your account for notifications, LFG access, and general community participation even if you haven't joined a clan yet — the clan-specific role sync only applies once you join one.
Can I still read the Discord server without linking? Yes, most channels are visible to anyone who joins the server. Linking mainly affects role assignment, verified-only channels, and automatic notifications rather than basic read access.
