Crafting Profit Guide 2026

Best items to craft and sell on the auction house for maximum gold profit in VvW Season 3.
This guide is based on live Season 3 data pulled straight from the forge recipe list, the shop catalogs, and the economy config β every gold figure below is a real number from the game files, not a rough estimate.
How Crafting Profit Actually Works
Every craft at the forge costs a flat gold_cost on top of its material list, and pays back xp_reward toward your character level. The catch is that most items have two very different values: a sell_price (what an NPC vendor pays you instantly) and a buy_price (what it costs to buy from a vendor or black market, which is a good proxy for what another player will pay on the auction house). Vendor sell_price is almost always a fraction of buy_price, so dumping a craft on an NPC is close to the worst way to cash it out. If you're crafting to sell, you sell on the auction house, not to a vendor.
The auction house itself takes a cut: a 2% listing fee plus a 5% sale tax (10%/20%/50% of that tax is waived for Bronze/Silver/Gold VIP), so budget roughly 7% off the top of whatever price you list at.
Don't Flip Low-Level Recipes β They're a Loss
Early forge recipes look cheap, but the math doesn't work in your favor. Iron Sword (forge_iron_sword, level 1) costs 50 gold plus 5Γ Iron Ore (12g each) and 2Γ Wolf Fang (15g each) β about 140 gold all-in β and the sword only carries a 10 gold sell_price with no buy_price at all, meaning it isn't even in the vendor/black-market rotation. Steel Sword (forge_steel_sword, level 10) is worse: 120 gold cost plus 8Γ Iron Ore and 3Γ Dark Iron (40g each) runs north of 336 gold invested for a sword that sells for 35. These early recipes exist to gear you up and burn crafting XP, not to fund your gold stash.
buy_price in the shop data, there's no vendor benchmark for it β its only real value is whatever a player will pay for it on the auction house. Cheap common-tier gear rarely clears that bar.
The Real Profit Zone: Level 35-50 Forge Legendaries
The four highest-value forge recipes all share the same craft_time_sec of 3600 (exactly one hour) and a similar 2,200-2,300 gold_cost, but their output value scales hard with level requirement. None of these four items appear anywhere in the shop or black-market item pools (which are capped at rare/epic) β crafting is the only way to put one on the market, so there's no vendor undercutting your price.
| Recipe | Level | Gold Cost | Buy Price | Est. AH Profit/hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Blood Blade | 35 | 2,200g | 8,000g | ~5,240g |
| Eternal Moon Sword | 40 | 2,225g | 9,000g | ~6,145g |
| Void Cutter | 45 | 2,250g | 11,000g | ~7,980g |
| Death's Edge | 50 | 2,275g | 13,000g | ~9,815g |
Profit/hr assumes you list at buy_price and eat the ~7% auction fee, with material cost treated as sunk (see below on where the mats come from). Death's Edge (craft_deaths_edge) is the single best gold-per-craft in the whole recipe list once you hit level 50 β a hair over 2,275 gold and one hour at the forge for something that lists near 13,000 gold.
Where the Materials Actually Come From
All four legendary recipes share two of three ingredients: 3Γ Golem Core (item 15, epic, no buy_price) and 5Γ Mountain Gem (item 14, rare, no buy_price) β neither is sold anywhere, so you have to farm monster drops or gather them. The third ingredient is the only one you can shortcut with gold: Void Cutter and Death's Edge both call for 8Γ Iron Ore (item 201), a common mining node available in central Aeternum, northern Aeternum, and the Swamp of Decay, buyable for 12 gold each if you'd rather not mine it yourself (96g for the stack). Ancient Blood Blade instead wants 8Γ Vampire Fang (item 43, uncommon, drop-only), and Eternal Moon Sword wants 8Γ Wolf Pelt (item 1, common, drop-only).
Race-Locked Recipes: Gear, Not Gold
Two mid-tier weapons are restricted to one race and skip the buy_price field entirely: Blood Blade (forge_blood_blade, vampire-only, level 15, 300 gold, sells for only 70) and Wolf Fang Sword (forge_wolf_fang_sword, werewolf-only, level 20, 500 gold, sells for only 100). With no buy_price benchmark and a race restriction halving your buyer pool, these are best crafted for your own bar, not the auction house.
Gold Sinks to Plan Around
Whatever you earn from crafting eventually feeds back into the economy's gold sinks: item repair costs 10% of buy_price, item upgrades run from 50 gold at +1 up to 5,000 gold at +10, and skill upgrades cost a 100 gold base plus 50 gold per level. If you're stacking Death's Edge crafts for profit, keep a few thousand gold in reserve for +10 upgrades on your own gear β the margins above easily cover it.
FAQ
Q: What's the single most profitable recipe to craft right now?
A: craft_deaths_edge β level 50, 2,275 gold_cost, one hour craft time, 13,000 buy_price. Nothing else in the recipe list matches its profit-per-hour.
Q: Should I sell crafted gear to a vendor?
A: No. Vendor sell_price is a small fraction of buy_price (e.g. Death's Edge sells for 5,000 to a vendor vs. ~13,000 on the open market). Always list on the auction house instead.
Q: Why can't I buy Golem Core or Mountain Gem from a shop?
A: They have no buy_price in the shop data β they're drop-only materials you get from monsters or gathering nodes, which is exactly why crafted legendaries hold their value: the ingredients aren't for sale.
Q: Is it worth crafting Iron Sword or Steel Sword to sell?
A: No β both cost more in gold_cost plus materials than their sell_price returns. Craft them only to level your forging skill or gear an alt.
Q: How much does the auction house take from my sale?
A: A 2% listing fee plus a 5% sale tax, roughly 7% total β less if you have VIP (Bronze/Silver/Gold cut that tax by 10%/20%/50%).
